Join us for a frightfully fun family woodworking experience where one parent/guardian and one child will craft either a Creepy Crawly Bug Hotel or a Haunted Bird House. This special Halloween workshop combines traditional woodworking skills with seasonal creativity, giving families the chance to make something together that's both useful for garden wildlife and delightfully spooky!

Choose your project at the start of the day:

1. Creepy Crawly Bug Hotel: A multi-chambered habitat for beneficial insects, decorated with eerie details perfect for autumn garden visitors.

2. Haunted Bird House: A gothic-inspired nesting box that'll give garden birds a spooky (but cozy!) place to roost

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:

Woodworking Fundamentals:

• Working safely with hand tools and battery-powered equipment.

• Measuring, marking, and cutting accurately with tenon saws and hand saws.

• Using chisels and mallets to create clean, precise joints.

• Operating drills with countersink and clearance holes for professional screw joints.

• Shaping and smoothing wood with block planes and orbital sanders

Joint-Making Techniques:

• Butt joints for strong, simple connections.

• Housing joints for shelves and dividers.

• Mitre cuts for neat corner details.

• Possible hardwood exposed dowel joints for added character.

• Housing grooves or lap joints for structural elements

Finishing Skills:

• Proper sanding technique.

• Filling imperfections with wood filler.

• Surface preparation for painting.

• Applying Halloween-themed decorative finishes with brushes and low-tack tape for crisp lines.

TOOLS & MATERIALS PROVIDED

Hand Tools:

• Chisel, mallet, hammer.

• Tenon saw, hand saw.

• Screwdriver, nail punch.

• Combination square, marking gauge, marking knife.

• Block plane, sanding block.

Battery Tools:

• Drill-driver with countersink bits and drill bits.

• Orbital disc sander.

Decorating Supplies:

• Brushes, low tack tape, filling knife.

• Wood filler for a professional finish.

Plus: All timber, wood glue, clamps, screws, fixings, and Halloween-themed paint colors!
