Press Release: POW Workshops Brings Traditional Crafts and Digital Fabrication to London Design Festival 2025
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Not-for-profit makerspace in Park Royal offers hands-on workshops from bookbinding to welding, making specialist skills accessible to all.
LONDON, UK – Park Royal Open Workshops (POW), a not-for-profit open workshop, will open its doors to the public during London Design Festival 2025 with a weekend program celebrating both traditional craft skills and cutting-edge digital fabrication. Taking place on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th of September, the program offers visitors the chance to learn everything from traditional joinery and bookbinding to welding and power tool training in a fully equipped 6000sqft makerspace.
Located in London's industrial heartland, POW Workshops was founded in 2023 with a simple vision: "Give everyone the chance to make it." The weekend program reflects this ethos, welcoming complete beginners alongside experienced makers to explore skills that might otherwise remain inaccessible due to space, cost, or equipment barriers.
The workshop lineup includes traditional joinery with Alex Cunningham, bookbinding with jeweller-turned-bookbinder Kate Grimes, welding introduction with Phil Webb, and serving board making with Fixatorium's Sean Rodrigo.
"We see so many people who want to make things but face barriers – whether that's not having the space, the tools, or simply not knowing where to start," says Alex Rincon, POW's co-founder. "London Design Festival gives us the perfect opportunity to show people what's possible when those barriers are removed. You might leave with a handmade book, or you might discover a passion that changes your life."
Since opening, POW has become a hub for London's maker community, supporting everyone from professional restorers and product designers to weekend DIY enthusiasts and career-changing artists. The workshop provides affordable access to professional-grade equipment that would otherwise be out of reach, along with the training and community support needed to use it safely and effectively.
The London Design Festival weekend represents POW's commitment to democratizing making skills across London. All workshops include tools and materials, with expert instruction ensuring safe, supportive learning environments for participants of all skill levels.
